Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026 by national published figures. That works out to $3,000 to $9,000 for 150 feet. Where an Amarillo job falls depends on the length, the height, the gates, the old fence that has to come out and how the fence is built for wind.
These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Labor, material prices and what we find in your yard decide the real number in Amarillo. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
National figures put a 6-foot privacy fence at $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below gives totals by length for a typical fence at $20 to $60 per foot. A tall solid fence uses more lumber and needs stronger posts, so it sits in the higher part of each row.
| Fence length | Typical installed cost |
|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link, which starts near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy, a pine or cedar picket fence on steel or treated posts is normally the lowest-cost solid option. If the goal is keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link works well and lets the wind pass through. Slats can be added, but they add wind load, so say so before the posts are chosen.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
Yes for iron, and about even with vinyl. Aluminum is listed at $25 to $75 per foot, wrought iron at $50 to $85 and vinyl at $30 to $60. Aluminum is light, does not rust and is open to the wind, which suits front yards and pools on the High Plains.
How much extra does a gate cost?
Each gate is its own line on the estimate, priced by width, material and hardware. A walk gate adds the least. A double gate onto the alley for a trailer, or any gate with an operator, adds the most, because the posts and footings are much heavier.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
The usual extras here are tearing out and hauling the old fence, breaking out old concrete footings, and slow digging in caliche. Slopes and brush come up on lots near the canyon breaks and around Lake Tanglewood and Timbercreek Canyon. We see all of this on the site visit and write each one as a separate line.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
Compare the scope before the totals. Look at footage, height, picket thickness and species, whether the posts are wood or steel, post depth and spacing, gate count, removal of the old fence and clean-up. In Amarillo, post size and spacing explain a lot of the gap, because that is where a bid can be cut and where a fence fails in the wind. Quotes for the same written scope should be close.
Does a fence add value to my home?
A sound fence makes a house easier to sell, mostly to buyers with dogs or children, but you should not expect to get the full cost back. Whether it changes your appraisal for property taxes is a question for your county appraisal district.
